Maui Downwind
Vacation
Hawai‘i is the birthplace of the OC1 and the most sought-after downwind destination in the world, especially Maui, which hosts the legendary Maliko Run and Kihei Run, each with its own unique personality.
It's also home to legendary paddlers and canoe designers, offering a rare opportunity to learn, connect, and paddle where it all began.
Maui is our flagship experience: an extended paddling vacation focused on downwind runs, designed for paddlers who want to enjoy consistent wind conditions, improve their skills, and live the Hawaiian paddling lifestyle.
The program includes daily Maliko and Kihei runs, ocean safety support, transportation for paddlers and boats, premium outrigger canoes and surfskis, oceanfront lodging, airport transfers, and a full-time paddler guide.
We’ll also explore Maui’s natural highlights, including Haleakalā, Hana, Iao Valley, Napili, and more.
Our Fleet
You’ll have access to a diverse fleet of high-performance boats, all built in prepreg carbon, autoclave-cured, with titanium components:
OC1: Ares, Cantare, Draco, Vela, Volare |
OC2: Ballare, Gemini |
V1: Fai 4si, iTi |
Surfski: Vega, Vega Flex, Vega Arc |
We currently have one to three units of each model and are continuously adding to our fleet. All Ozone-built boats are incredibly versatile, performing well in a wide range of conditions. Each brings something unique to the table but every option a solid choice no matter the day. You can try a variety of models throughout your stay but feel free to request your preferred model in your reservation.

What a Typical Week Looks Like
Our schedule revolves around the ocean. Paddling sessions usually happen during the best wind window of late morning to the mid afternoon, giving you slow, peaceful mornings to wake up at your own pace, enjoy breakfast at the house with an ocean view, or walk just a few minutes into Paia to grab coffee at one of its charming cafés.
Then we make our way to either Maliko or Kihei, depending on which offers better conditions that day. On the water, the guide will be there to paddle with you if you’d like. Or you can race some local paddlers - good luck!
After getting off the water, the program varies, but it always includes good food and good people. We often wrap up a downwind by gathering with local paddlers around the back of a truck, sharing beers, stories, and good laughs. Another of our favorite routines is stopping by the market for fresh poke and heading to Iao Valley, a historic site of ancient Hawaiian battles, where we cool off in the river, a place still loved by local families today. Or if conditions are especially good, we may squeeze in two runs in a day, because why not?
One day during the week is dedicated to the famous Hana Road, a full-day adventure through beaches, waterfalls, and scenic viewpoints. Another afternoon, we’ll make our way up to the summit of Haleakalā to watch the sunset, an unforgettable moment you won’t want to miss.
People are a big part of what makes this experience special. We share the journey as a group, deciding together how to make the most of each moment, with local guidance and room for spontaneity. Throughout the week, we’ll blend with the local paddling scene both on and off the water, including members of the Ozone family.

Ozone Family
In Maui, you’ll find more than just perfect downwind runs, you’ll find the people who shape the sport from the inside out. It’s here that the heart of Ozone lives: founder and designer Mike Giblin and family. Together, they are the soul of Ozone, a true family, committed to sharing their love for the ocean and the craft of paddling.
Maui is also home to legendary figures like Kai Bartlett, world-renowned paddler and founder of Kai Wa'a, and Cam Jacome, the visionary behind Palafamala paddles, known for blending cutting-edge performance with deep cultural roots.
On any given day, you might find them on the water or relaxing on shore, always open to a good conversation. Getting to know them, not as distant icons, but as fellow ocean lovers, is one of the most enriching aspects of joining the Maui paddling community.

ACCOMMODATIONS
We’ve handpicked a selection of six oceanfront houses and cottages in Paia, a charming town that blends laid-back surf culture with local character.
Perfectly located between Maliko Gulch and Kahului, Paia offers convenient access to our daily runs, plus organic cafés, colorful shops, and a strong sense of community.
Final accommodation selection depends on group size and availability. All houses are within walking distance to the beach and local amenities.

Transport and Logistics
Each package includes one or more rental vehicles for the group, used for airport transfers, paddling logistics, and excursions. Canoes are transported on a dedicated truck and trailer.
Driving is a shared task, and participants with a valid license are welcome to help. Tying down, rinsing, and caring for equipment is a group effort, and we’ll guide you every step of the way.
